Random Access Memory, formally known as RAM is the memory inside your computer to store data and information to be access quickly anytime needed. RAM acts as an integrated memory chip allowing information to be stored there, rather than the hard drive. “Random access memory or RAM most commonly refers to computer chips that temporarily store dynamic data to enhance computer performance.” (1) RAM determines the speed the programs and the computer itself works at hence it is very important for a company in mobile computing. Operating mobile you will need to run multiple programs and access the internet at high speeds so a lot of RAM is essential for the mobile regime of work. With quick fast PC’s mobile computing will be much more successful and the company will strive for success within the industry.

Storage Area Network- D-Link xStack Storage Area Network Array DSN-1100-10 Hard drive array - 5-bay is very expensive which runs $1,300 up to $2,500 dollars. Storage Area Network which is referred to as SAN is a storage network which provides access to multiple users to access at the same time. SAN acts as its attached to the local hard drive allowing multiple users to access any data on your PC. “A storage area network (SAN) is a high-speed special-purpose network (or sub-network) that interconnects different kinds of data storage devices with associated data servers on behalf of a larger network of users”. (2) SAN is used in many businesses for all employees to make use of in the office. It acts as a disk mirror, used for backup and restore of company data, and retrieval of any archived information. SAN is very valuable to companies and seems to be required in the mobile work industry. All client information or confidential company information can be backup onto the SAN incase a PC fails. This is the technology of the future which will be used by everyone, without the use of SAN a company may fall behind in the mobile workflow.

Optical Data Reader - Canon DR-1210C Universal Flatbed Color Document Scanner [DR-1210C] runs from $600 to $1,000 dollars depending on the performance you seek out of the Data reader. This equipment can scan documents into the PC to save the time and accuracy of inputting the information manually. "Optical character recognition, usually abbreviated to OCR, is the mechanical or electronic translation of scanned images of handwritten, typewritten or printed text into machine-encoded text”. (3) The Data reader creates a computerized record keeping file system on the PC for anything needed to be inputted for business use. Companies can benefit from this technology to speed up the process of analyzing and inputting data needed in computer systems for business use. When operating a business in the mobile regime of work, this technology will help is so many ways. The manual time is takes to input data from paperwork can be save from the Data Reader. Even though this is fairly new to most companies, growth within the company can be made possible with the speed and 100% accuracy of the data reader.

LCD Display Monitor- HP S2031 - 20" - widescreen TFT active matrix LCD displayretails for about $150 to $400 depends on the size and name brand of the screen. LCD is a flat panel monitor which uses liquid crystal display (LCD) to connect to a PC and is used as a display monitor. “LCD displays utilize two sheets of polarizing material with a liquid crystal solution between them”. (4) These monitors are easier on the eyes of the viewer and save on use of energy CRT monitors. LCD monitors are thin and take up less space to provide a new, improved, and cleaner look then the old heavy monitors we all are used to. Using these newer and improved monitors can advance the workplace in technology to adapt to the mobile computing. LCD monitors have been used in airports, colleges, and even hospitals to display information on a large screen with little energy use. This advance technology will only be used into the future and companies who integrate this technology will only succeed better with mobile computing.

Notebook Computer-Apple MacBook - Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz - 13.3″ - 2 GB Ram - 250 GB HDD can run from $800 to $2,000 depending on the contents of the computer you wish to have. A Notebook computer is a must have technology by all person is the business world and recreational world. A computer has advanced to be something to use for all needs on a daily basis. Businesses can no longer operate successfully without the help of Notebooks. These computers unlike desktops are light and mobile. Notebooks can be brought to the jobsite to meet with a computer or can be brought to an office to conduct business on. Notebooks have the same capabilities as computer such as downloading, printing documents, and communicating on the internet. “A notebook computer is a battery- or AC-powered personal computer generally smaller than a briefcase that can easily be transported and conveniently used in temporary spaces such as on airplanes, in libraries, temporary offices, and at meetings. A notebook computer, sometimes called a laptop computer typically weighs less than 5 pounds and is 3 inches or less in thickness”. (5) Notebook computing is perfect for mobile computing since it’s so light it can be virtually brought anywhere needed. With these notebook’s being able to hold lots of memory and run on long battery power, there is no need for the large desktop we all grew up using. Notebooks are used as checkout stations for some businesses, instead of visiting the business to complete a sale the notebook computer can complete all the necessary paperwork and submit the data back to the business electronically. This technology has advanced and will continue to advance the mobile regime of work.
Smartphone - BlackBerry Torch 9800 BlackBerry Smartphone - 3G 512 MB - WCDMA (UMTS) / GSM can run from $125 to $375 dollars depending on the brand and features available for the phone. Smartphones are the new technology which everyone in the business considers crucial for successful business in the industry. Instead of everyone working from a computer, a Smartphone allows you to access websites and communicate with other business partners at the touch of a finger. “In a nutshell, a Smartphone is a device that lets you make telephone calls, but also adds in features that you might find on a personal digital assistant or a computer--such as the ability to send and receive e-mail and edit Office documents, for example”. (6) A cell phone that has capabilities to write e-mails, make phone calls, and run software applications is like a small mobile computer that can be carried in your pocket. The Smartphone has become so popular in the business world; most professionals cannot conduct business without it. When a company wants to conduct mobile business computing there is nothing better that shouts out mobile then the Smartphone. This cell phone allows you to conduct business in the office, at home, or even on the road because of its advanced features working on the go. This technology can connect everyone together being able to share and send documents from your cell phone rather than a PC. The future of technology and mobile business will always be integrating a Smartphone, it just so simple to use and remarkably rewarding to most professionals.
